Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown in Southampton: What to Know First

As an independent Gelco service provider, we handle Gelco chimney cap and crown work throughout Southampton, from standard cap replacements on the Multi-Flue and Stainless Steel series to crown rebuilds and coatings on the older Black Galvanized line. Most Gelco cap and crown jobs are completed in a single visit, with upfront pricing agreed before we start. We do not mark up parts to pad the bill, and we do not recommend work you can see for yourself is unnecessary.

Call (516) 619-2915

This page is for Southampton homeowners who already own a Gelco cap or are replacing one on a chimney that has seen twenty or more winters. If you are unsure of your model, we will identify it during the inspection. Call (516) 619-2915 to speak with a live person, any hour.

How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Multi-Flue cap screen separation. The welded wire mesh on Gelco’s Multi-Flue series can pull free at the frame joint after seasons of thermal cycling, especially on Southampton chimneys that vent oil-fired systems with high stack temperatures. We see this most often on homes north of the highway where the cap sits in full sun all day. We reattach with stainless steel rivets and high-temp sealant, or replace with an OEM-equivalent screen if the frame is still sound.
  • Black Galvanized cap rust-through at the drip edge. Gelco’s powder-coated black line looks sharp when new, but the coating eventually chalks and the underlying galvanized steel begins pinhole rust at the drip edge, right where Southampton’s salt air collects. We do not respray these; the rust always returns. We replace with a Gelco stainless equivalent or, if the budget allows, a custom-fabricated copper cap that will outlast the roof.
  • Stainless Steel cap fastener galling. The 300-series stainless caps Gelco sells are excellent, but the stainless screws that ship with them can gall against the stainless frame when tightened by an installer who does not know the brand. We have extracted more of these frozen screws than we care to count. We replace with anti-seize-coated fasteners and torque to Gelco’s spec so you can remove the cap for sweeping without a fight.
  • Crown wash cracking beneath Gelco caps. Southampton’s freeze-thaw cycles are hard on crown wash, and a Gelco cap that is too small for the flue projection leaves the crown edge exposed to driven rain. The Single-Flue line in particular is sometimes spec’d too tight by builders who cared more about price than coverage. We measure the full crown footprint and upsize the cap or add a cantilevered extension when needed.
  • Spark arrestor mesh clogging on wood-burning installs. Gelco’s fine-mesh spark arrestor option meets code, but in Southampton’s pitch pine and oak country, the mesh can glaze with creosote in a single burning season if the homeowner burns green or unseasoned wood. We clean the mesh in place when possible, replace it when it has warped from overheating, and we will tell you plainly if your burning habits are making the problem worse.

Our Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Process

  1. 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers, asks what you are seeing, and books a time. We do not give a price over the phone for cap and crown work; there are too many variables.
  2. 2
Level-2 camera inspection. Our technician arrives in uniform, photographs the cap, crown, and flue condition, and runs a camera if there is any question about the flue beneath. You see the photos on the spot.
  3. 3
Parts decision. We identify your Gelco series and check availability. OEM Gelco parts are our first choice for warranty compatibility, but we also stock quality aftermarket equivalents from Copperfield and Famco when Gelco lead times stretch past what the weather will allow.
  4. 4
Repair or replacement. Cap jobs are usually done same visit. Crown repairs require cure time for mortar or coating; we schedule return when the product manufacturer specifies.
  5. 5
Test and document. We verify draft and cap fit, show you the finished work, and leave a written report with photos. The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies in writing, no arguing.
  6. 6
Cleanup and close. We haul away the old cap or debris. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice.

What Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Southampton

Service Typical Range
Gelco single-flue cap replacement (stainless) $280 - $450
Gelco multi-flue cap replacement $420 - $680
Custom cap, copper or fabricated stainless $750 - $1,400
Crown coating (HeatShield or equivalent) $380 - $620
Crown rebuild, partial $650 - $1,100
Crown rebuild, full $1,200 - $2,200

What moves the price: accessibility (steep roof, height, scaffolding), whether the flue tile needs repair before capping, and whether we are matching an existing Gelco finish for aesthetic consistency. We do not upsell copper to someone who wants stainless, and we do not pretend a coating will fix a crown that needs rebuilding.

Estimates are free. Call (516) 619-2915 for an exact quote on your Gelco cap or crown.

Why Southampton Homeowners Call Hearthstone Chimney Co. for Gelco Work

We have been sweeping and repairing chimneys in Southampton since before many of these Gelco caps were installed the first time. Russell Haines and our crew know the difference between a Multi-Flue 13×18 and a Single-Flue 8×8 without climbing down to check the label, and we know which Southampton neighborhoods have the salt-air exposure that kills black galvanized caps faster.

Our 90-Day Done Right Promise is in writing, no arguing. Our technicians are background-checked, uniformed, and carry the full range of DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco-compatible parts so we are not making a second trip because we guessed wrong on sizing. A clean flue does the talking - you just need a warm fire to hear it.
