Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement: The Southampton Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Copperfield-compatible flue liner replacement for Southampton homes, with most jobs running between $2,800 and $4,500 installed depending on height, diameter, and whether the chase needs reframing. Our trucks carry the common 6-inch and 8-inch flexible stainless diameters used in Copperfield systems, and we can usually inspect, measure, and schedule the swap within a single visit. Most Southampton owners discover the liner has failed only after a Level-2 inspection turns up cracked seams, rust-through at the water line, or separation at the collar - often during a routine sweep after a hard winter or when they smell smoke in an upstairs bedroom.

Which Copperfield Models This Applies To

Copperfield has manufactured chimney components under several series names over the years, and the flue liner you need depends on which generation is in your chase. The older rigid stainless systems - common in Southampton’s 1970s and 1980s builds - used segmented pipes with twist-lock collars that are no longer produced. Newer flexible liners, typically found in retrofits from the 1990s forward, carry a stamped model tag near the top termination or a serial label on the chimney cap.

We match by three things: inside diameter (5.5-inch, 6-inch, 7-inch, or 8-inch), total linear feet from appliance throat to cap, and whether the original was 316-alloy or the heavier 316Ti titanium alloy used in higher-heat applications. The OEM Copperfield part is not always available, and in our experience the aftermarket equivalents we source from the same mills - 316Ti stainless with the same .006-inch minimum wall thickness - perform identically and carry the same 20-year warranty. We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Copperfield, and we will show you the material certification before we drop anything down your flue.

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

  • Smoke or odor seeping into second-floor rooms. This usually means a seam has separated or the liner has shifted off the appliance collar, allowing exhaust to leak into the chase cavity. In Southampton’s older colonials with center chimneys, that smoke travels through wall cavities before it reaches a bedroom.
  • White or orange staining on the exterior masonry below the roofline. That is acidic condensate eating through a pinhole or crack, then leaching through the mortar joints. Once you see it outside, the liner wall is already compromised.
  • Chunks of clay tile in the firebox or cleanout. If your chimney was originally clay-lined and a Copperfield retrofit liner was installed over it, collapsing terracotta means the new liner is no longer supported and may be crushed or deformed.
  • Draft that worked fine last season now pushes smoke into the room on startup. Liners can delaminate or develop interior scaling that narrows the flue diameter by a quarter-inch or more - enough to kill draft in a shallow fireplace on a warm, humid Southampton afternoon.
  • Visible rust or holes when looking up from the firebox with a flashlight. Any perforation in a flue liner is a failed liner. Carbon monoxide can exit through holes smaller than a pencil eraser, and you will not smell it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Component Typical Range
Copperfield-compatible 316Ti liner (material only) $1,200 - $2,400
Labor: removal, installation, insulation wrap $1,100 - $1,800
Top plate, rain cap, and collar adapter $280 - $450
Chase reframing or crown repair (if needed) $400 - $900
Total installed $2,800 - $4,500

What drives the range: height of the chimney (a three-story Southampton Village colonial runs more material than a ranch in North Sea), whether we need to remove a damaged existing liner first, and if the chase top or crown has deteriorated enough that water will just destroy the new liner in two seasons. We photograph everything, explain what can wait and what cannot, and give you the full number before we start. The 90-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation in writing - if it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

There is nothing wrong with looking up your flue with a flashlight to confirm what we are describing. But pulling a liner - especially one that may be creosote-heavy, partially collapsed, or wedged behind degraded clay tile - is not a homeowner job. The liner arrives coiled and must be fed from the top while a second person manages the appliance connection without kinking or tearing the wall. A torn liner dropped into a chase is an expensive fishing expedition.

More importantly, a flue liner is a life-safety component. An improper slope, a gap at the collar, or missing insulation in a chase that runs up an exterior wall can create a creosote buildup zone or a carbon monoxide path you will not detect until it is too late. We have the camera, the pull rig, and the combustion analysis to verify the draw after we finish. Call (516) 619-2915 and we will walk through what you are seeing before you decide on anything.
