Which HeatShield Models This Applies To

HeatShield does not manufacture its own chimney caps. The brand built its reputation on cerfractory flue resurfacing and liner systems, so when you have a “HeatShield chimney cap,” what you typically have is a cap installed by a contractor who also works with HeatShield materials, or a cap paired with a HeatShield liner in a prior job. The cap itself is usually a Gelco, Famco, or Olympia Chimney unit sized to the flue.

To identify what you actually need, check the stamped label on the cap’s skirt or the inside of the mesh screen. Gelco caps carry a model prefix - GC for standard, GCSS for stainless - followed by the flue diameter. Olympia uses OL-series numbering. If the label is rusted away, measure the flue tile inside diameter, not the crown outside edge. Southampton’s older homes, especially the 1920s shingled places near Hill Street, often have 8×8 or 8×12 flue tiles that do not match modern standard sizing.

You can safely check three things from the ground with binoculars: whether the cap is present, whether it sits level, and whether the mesh is intact. Do not climb the roof.
